Chef and social entrepreneur, David is the founder of Gastromotiva and one of the principal leaders of the Social Gastronomy Movement in Brazil and worldwide.
Born in Curitiba, state of Paraná, his passion for cooking began after travelling for seven years abroad to Israel, Thailand, India, China, among others during which time he discovered many techniques and flavors, which would later form the most important recipe of his life. Impressed by gastronomy´s wealth of possibilities, he returned to Brazil and graduated in the area from SENAC Águas de São Pedro. Subsequently, he worked as a chef in well-known caterers and restaurants. After an important period of experience, he realized something which would change his life: if gastronomy was so rich in possibilities, maybe it could have a larger purpose than just food, becoming a powerful agent for transformation and social inclusion. So began Gastromotiva.
Hertz is an Artemisia entrepreneur, an Ashoka fellow, and has received awards and recognition for his initiatives, his nomination as “Young Global Leader” at the 2012 World Economic Forum being the most important.
